About Save the Children

We’re the world’s independent children’s charity.

We’re outraged that millions of children are still denied proper healthcare, food, education and protection. We’re working flat out to get every child their rights and we’re determined to make further, faster changes.

What will Business Heroes achieve?

Every year more than 60 million children are caught up in emergencies. Most lives are lost in the first days after an emergency strikes. The quicker we respond, the more lives we save. Our Children’s Emergency Fund is designed to help us do just that.

The fund means we don’t have to wait for the public to see the news or read the newspapers. It allows us to release the money we need immediately so we can begin the work of saving lives.

The £100,000 you help raise for the Children’s Emergency Fund could mean we can fill a plane with life-saving supplies within hours and respond when it matters.

Haiti

Earlier this year Save the Children had to mount our most challenging and complex emergency response ever. With a 30-year history in Haiti, we were on the ground when the earthquake hit and responded immediately with emergency aid. In six months we reached 682,000 children and their families with food, shelter and supplies. Over the next five years we’ll be helping people rebuild their lives.

Niger

Poor rains and high food prices have left millions short of food and hungry in Niger. Starvation threatens to kill almost 400,000 children. But this is a silent emergency, largely ignored by the media. Read more about how we are doing more to save children in some of the worst-affected communities.

Pakistan

As Pakistan suffers the heaviest monsoon rains in living memory, at least 6 million of the 14 million people affected by the devastating floods are children. We’re already there, mobilising supplies and getting aid to families who need it. We’ve launched a £6.3 million fundraising appeal to reach more. Read more about our immediate plans here
